5 differently-abled students appear in JAC boards : Ranchi


The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) is seeing only five differently abled students of different categories including visually impaired, deaf and dumb and orthopaedic appearing for this year’s board examination from the capital city.
At Marwari Girls’ High School in Ranchi’s Upper Bazaar, 15-year-olds Ram Oraon, Manju Ekka and Lalita Kumari were seen assertively attempting the commerce paper of the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC)-conducted matriculation examination.
“According to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act 1995, suitable modification in the examination system to eliminate purely mathematical questions for the benefit of blind students and students with low vision; restructuring of curriculum for the benefit of children with disabilities and hearing impairment to facilitate them to take only one language as part of their curriculum is done,” said former state disability commissioner Satish Chandra. He further added so that these children are at ease while writing their papers.
Apart from writers, the administration has also allowed 30 extra minutes to each special examinee to answer their papers. District Education Officer (DEO) Mahip Kumar Singh said, “Till know we have only received five applications in which the student requires a writer to give examinations. And according to that we have provided facilities to them.”
Whereas JAC has asked the DEO’s of every district to make arrangements for such special students in the 24 districts of Jharkhand. Joint Secretary, JAC A.K Jha said, “There are 4-5 students who are differently abed in every district of Jharkhand.
All the on duty District Education Officers are managing and providing the amenities which are requisite and obligatory for such special students.”
