Disabled seek quota to contest elections

Persons with disabilities have demanded at least 3% reservation for them in the General Elections and urban local body polls. They said though the disabled constitute a sizeable number of voters, they are being neglected by political parties. If the parties don't give them reservation then they said they would skip the polls.

"According to rough estimate, persons with disabilities constitute around 6% of the total voters. But none of the political parties show any concern towards them. If we don't have our representatives then we will not vote," said convener of Odisha State Disability Federation Sanyas Behera.
