Physically Challenged Indian Cricket League (IPCL) would be launched
from August 29 at Raja Nahar Singh Stadium, Faridabad, in which 15
Pakistan handicapped players would also be seen in action.
Ravi Chauhan, secretary Physically Challenged Cricket Association of
India told this in an exclusive interview with The Nation on Saturday.
Ravi said: “August 29th is my birthday, so we have choose this day to
inaugurate this dream project, which would also involve players from
other countries and especially from Pakistan and Australia. At a time
when both our countries are not ready to start bilateral cricketing
ties, we and Pakistan Cricket Association for Physically Handicapped
took an initiative and despite lot of pressure, we successfully toured
Pakistan in last June last and they visited India in October last year.”
Ravi further said it was very discouraging that all the other
countries players are participating in Indian Premier League but only
Pakistani players are deprived from taking part in IPL. “I had visited
Pakistan twice last year. I found people here very loving, caring and
they gave tremendous respect to us.” We have appointed Shaikh Abdul
Waheed as country director of IPCL in Pakistan and all the interesting
handicapped players in Pakistan must feel free to contact him. “We are
planning to at least hire 10 to 15 players from Pakistan, and would
offer them central contracts and other perks and privileges.”
Ravi said Pakistan and India took the early initiative of
establishing the handicapped cricket teams and we had played against
each other thrice and we are now bonded in a love and respect relation,
no one could break this partnership He said they were also working on
hosting Pakistan at the neutral venue of UAE for an exhibition cricket
match and engage more teams from the rest of Asia.
Ravi said a total of Indian rupees 700,000 would be distributed among
the eight participating teams in the inaugural IPCL and every team
could add three international players, with two would be allowed in
every match.
Ravi said the IPCL would be conducted on the lines of IPL and eight
teams would be set up for players bid. He said the private companies
would be involved in the bidding process and teams including Royals,
Delhi, Haryana Patrotias, Young Punjab, Bengal Tiger, Chhattisgarh Iron
King, Bangalore strikers and HP will be in action. The champions would
be given Indian rupees 200000, while the runners up would muster Rs
100000 while man of the series and best performing player of the series
would also be given Rs 31,000 each, he added.
