Handicapped learn traffic mgmt : kanpur

The traffic and civil police trained disable persons who will assist them in traffic management at Bada Chauraha. They were given training on how to manage traffic and stop people from crossing barricades.

The session started around 11 am which continued till late in the afternoon on Friday. The differently-able persons learned the ways to manage traffic. The cops also trained them on how to issue chalans. Handicapped people are soon going to assist the traffic police to control traffic at 20 busiest crossings of the city. This is the unique initiative of Kanpur traffic department. The proposal to deploy disabled persons for traffic management had been mooted by Rakesh Kumar Nayak, circle officer traffic.

They would be put on trial at crossings and will be made permanent on the job.

The traffic department will pay Rs 100 to each disable person for assisting in traffic management. If successful, then it would be implemented at other crossings.

The traffic department is also trying that some business houses should adopt the handicapped persons and provide them financial assistance for doing the job.
