Seminar on Cerebal Palsy @ Bhopal

Swami Vivekanand Institute of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Spine (SVINNS) is organising a seminar on 'Cerebal Palsy' on Sunday at Kisan Bhavan Parisar, near RBI.

 Pediatric Orthosurgeon Dr Taral Nagda at PD Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, Dr Gauri Pandit, Pediatric Neurologist, Dr Sunil Pandit, Neurosurgeon and Dr Madhur Chaudhory, Developmental Physiotherapist from SVINNS will speak on various aspects of Cerebral Palsy. Orthopedic Surgeons, Pediatricians and Physiotherapists of Bhopal will be participating in the seminar.

 While talking to media persons here on Friday, Dr Gauri Pandit of SVINNS informed that the development of the brain is at its peak from intrauterine period to two years of age. During this period if there is any internal injury to the brain then it manifests as Cerebral Palsy. This injury could be due to prematurity, lack of oxygen, lack of blood supply, infection etc. Delayed development, stiffness and spasms of limbs, involuntary movements are some of the features of cerebral palsy.

Parents feel depressed and disappointed when the child is diagnosed to have cerebral palsy. However, there are various treatment modalities available which can improve the quality of life of these children, he added.

Moreover, several other diseases which have neurological manifestations are sometimes wrongly labeled as cerebral palsy. These diseases may be completely curable or preventable, and hence there is a need for thorough evaluation before labeling as cerebral palsy. The seminar at SVINNS will highlight these aspects, and offer insights into identification and management of Cerebral Palsy cases.
