Twenty persons with cerebral palsy who have been receiving vocational training for the last five-eight years at city's Utkarsh Samiti will now eke out an independent living as they will be doing the complete packaging of tea including weighing, filling and sealing for which they will be given remuneration by the tea manufacturing company.

"This is for the first time that a company has generated employment for cerebral palsy students through which they will be able to earn now," said Utkarsh Samiti founder Madhavi Koparkar.

Parents of children who attend vocational training at the centre claimed that the opportunity has brought a new wave of joy for their children who have become all the way more confident with this employment.

"My son Gaurav has been receiving training for the last eight years and now he is very excited to work as he will be able to earn," said parent Shyama Somani.

"He wants to have Samosa and Kachori from his first salary," she added. The unit will comprise tea filtration machines and deices to ensure full proof sealing of the packaged material. The Samiti had contacted a Dewas-based tea manufacturing company- Goodricke which agreed to establish their packaging unit at the Samiti's compound itself and has finalised the agreement.

"The remuneration amount per child is yet to be decided but in Calcutta where we have a similar unit, a person is paid Rs 3 per packet," said Goodricke project manager RP Tewari.
