Donates `2.36 crores to JK Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) at Bemina
State Bank of India (SBI) as part of its corporate social responsibility on Monday donated Rs 2.36 Crores as cost of a special project for rehabilitation of speech and hearing impaired and physically challenged children.
The project is to be implemented by JK Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) at Bemina here.
Handing over the cheque to Dr Mir M Maqbool, founder president of VMS, Rajnish Kumar, Managing Director (National Banking Group) of SBI, said that the bank has been spending over Rs 100 Crores annually on social welfare activities including holding of blood donation and medical camps, Drug De-addiction camps, Tree plantation drives, donation of fans, water purifiers, computers to schools in and outside J&K.
Kumar was accompanied by Anil Kishora, Chief Geneneral Manager, Kumar Ranjan, General Manager, NW-III, LHO Chandigarh and other local officers during his visit to the Shafaqat Rehabilitation Centre and Shafaqat School for Special Children run by the VMS at Bemina.
Kumar also inaugurated 4KW Solar power system for the inclusive school installed at a cost of Rs seven lakhs donated by the SBI Chairperson, Arundhati Bhattacharya during her visit to the campus in September last year.
Addressing a large gathering of civil society members and students of the school, Rajnish Kumar appreciated the work of the VMS and promised to continue to support its efforts towards welfare of the special children and differently-abled persons.
During the function, the special children of the school presented a skit and a special film on the working of VMS was also screened.
Earlier Dr Maqbool in his address thanked the SBI authorities for their continued support to VMS in its different endeavors. He recounted the terrible losses suffered by the VMS facilities at the campus during September 2014 floods.
